What I do & how I do it

Design

I work closely with my clients to help them realise their vision of creating attractive and professional identities on the web. I involve my clients in every step of the design process, starting with evaluating their needs, before then moving on to create wire frames and mock-up designs for their approval.

Each step of the design process is agreed with the client and signed-off before moving onto the next stage. This ensures that we can achieve a quality, usable design, optimised to my client’s needs and wants.

Development

My preferred development stack is Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP. The frameworks that I use are WordPress and CodeIgniter for rapid application development. Also, I use my own derivative of Debian GNU/Linux on the desktop and I am a competent Linux system administrator. I have numerous years experience of setting up and administering Linux servers, coding BASH and shell scripts, and I love to work remotely via the command line.

Depending on the needs of my clients, I can work with a number of content management systems, including WordPress and Drupal. I can also work to integrate my client’s websites into popular social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter, to help promotion and increase brand awareness, as well as developing bespoke solutions to help you run your business.

Hosting

I have many years of web hosting experience. I deploy all my client’s solutions exclusively on the award winning Debian GNU/Linux server environment. My web hosting servers offer excellent stability, reliability and security. I have previously helped clients with modest requirements (hundreds of visitors each month) and extraordinary requirements (many millions of visitors each month) — whatever my client’s needs, I can provide a flexible and cost-effective solution.

Maintenance and updates

I am available to fully manage my client’s web maintenance — I can perform daily backups and install software updates and security fixes when they become available, providing peace of mind for clients, knowing that their interests are being looked after 24/7.

I can take the hassle out of updating by providing my clients with a cost-effective website update schedule. Clients send me the copy, I publish it. I can collaborate on updates, working online via a number of means, including email, Google Docs etc. I also provide an additional proof reading service, free of charge!

For some websites, the key to success depends on how often the site is updated with fresh content. Fresh content encourages repeat visits and also attracts search engines. I can work with my clients to ensure that their content is updated on a regular basis. I can also send my clients friendly reminders of when to update, and in some cases, I can help with suggestions for new content.

Promotion

I work with my clients to help promote their websites. I can offer practical advice for advertising both offline and online. As mentioned under the ‘Development’ section, I can work to integrate my client’s websites into popular social media services like Facebook and Twitter — encouraging visitors to share links with their friends and peers.

I also offer a Google Adwords management service and I can help to drive visitors to your site and increase purchases/goals via paid for advertising.
